Waterdown Rod & Gun Club -Engaging Flippers-
« on: November 20, 2009, 11:16:45 AM »
This short video was taken during a fun shoot at the Waterdown Rod & Gun Club.  The bulls-eye area of those flippers are 3/4"x3/4"and the target was placed 23yards out.
IMHO, shooting from the seated position wearing a harness is darn near that of shooting off a bench rest ... A portable bench rest system is what it is. There's a bit of a learning curve to using this setup, but when you get it figured out, it's amazing just how steady you can get.

Thanks!... Never thought I'd be into the bondage gear until I tried it... lol

Here's a different view of how that target works...

I always liked shooting at those flipper type targets with the rimmy, but the paddles on those units were just too heavy for the <20fpe airguns to work them.
That was the first one made and it works great, but a little too big to just toss in the vehicle and take from place to place.
I ended up making a few more of these targets, only these are smaller and easier to travel with.. 4 flippers instead of 6 and a lot shorter to make the over all design compact and portable...

I like them, I take it they will be fine with sub 12 ft/lbs air guns too, might have a try at making one... when I have a bit of time ;)

12fpe is the perfect balanced energy level for either of the 2 designs... If you look closely at the targets you'll notice that the 2 units on the ends of the pic have shorter flippers then the 2 units in the middle. The targets with the shorter flippers work best within 5fpe-12fpe and the middle units work best within 8fpe-20fpe ...

The flipper length that works most predictably that I've tested to date are 5-1/2" in length... The material used is 3/16"x3/4" flat bar and the rod material is 5/16" dia.  Strong enough to take <20fpe for a very long time...
I ask someone to please take shots at one of the prototypes using his .22CAL Condor @ around 50fpe with the target out around the 25yard mark.. It stood up to the pounding and functioned just fine... Fresh coat of paint and should look almost as good as new...lol .. ??? ;D

Was that with your QB? OMG ...did you make some sort of faustian pact ?!? ;D  I see one problem  on the horizon, if you keep coming up with great ideas and toys to shoot at we will need to rent a cube van just to transport them!!!!!
